What is a breast surgeon?
A breast surgeon is a surgeon who specializes in diseases of the breast and armpit. Breast surgeons typically do not place breast implants or do breast reductions. They are not plastic surgeons.
Most breast surgeons have either been doing breast only surgery for many years or have done a specialized fellowship in breast surgery.
Breast surgeons take care of diseases in the breast and armpit. This can include cancer, lumps, mammogram findings, pain, infections, and other breast changes.
Most breast surgeons do not do any kind of reconstructive surgery. They work with plastic surgeons to offer these options to patients.
If you have a specific issue with your breast, speak with your doctor about getting a referral to a breast surgeon.
