What is a Strangulated Hernia?
A strangulated hernia is when the blood supply to the tissue that is “stuck out” is cut off.
If the tissue is strangled, it will eventually die due to lack of oxygen.
The symptoms of strangulation depend upon what tissue has lost its blood supply.
If the tissue strangled is intestine, pain, nausea, vomiting and swelling of the abdomen may occur.
Strangulation is potentially a life-threatening problem, and anyone who believes they might have this issue should be evaluated right away by a physician.
