What Causes an Inguinal Hernia?

1 min read
In many people, there is a weakness/”hole” of the abdominal wall present from birth (an “indirect” inguinal hernia) where the lining of the abdominal wall does not close as it should.
In others, the hernia is a “wear and tear” defect (a “direct” inguinal hernia)0 where the muscle in the groin thins due physical activity, coughing, or other activities that put high pressure on these vulnerable muscles.
