Screening for breast cancer
Screening mammograms have been shown to save lives.
If you’re at average risk, you should start getting annual mammograms at age 40.
Doing mammograms more often than once a year for screening has not been shown to be beneficial.
You should stop getting mammograms when you will no longer do anything about something that is found in the breast, no matter how small.
The sensitivity of mammograms is affected by the density of your breast issue.
Don’t rely on mammograms to find everything. Talk to your doctor about any breast concerns you have.
